New Black Panther Video Highlights The Dora Milaje
It's a brand new year, which means we've got a year choke full of superhero movies to get through. First up on that list is Black Panther, which looks to be setting the bar pretty high for the entire year. Trailers for the movie have made it look amazing, and many have been praising everything from the cast to the bumpin' soundtrack. There's also the Dora Milaje, the all-female fighting force of Wakanda. Learn a bit more about them in this cool featurette from Marvel Studios.
The Dora Milaje are the elite fighting force of Wakanda with the mission to protect the throne and its king -- The Black Panther. You wouldn't think a guy with enhanced senses and a vibranium suit would need much protecting, but the Dora Milaje might just be the most well trained warriors on the planet. Black Panther has shown us plenty of the title character, but the above featurette shines the spotlight on the women who watch his back. It reveals some new tidbits about the elite bodyguards, with maybe a full snippet of new footage to go along with it.
The two most prominent characters in the Dora Milaje are Okoye (Danai Gurira) and Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o), who seem to be a bit at odds with each other. Okoye is the general of the Dora Milaje and represents tradition. Nakia, on the other hand, is more of a spy and challenges tradition.
As far as the action goes, the Dora Milaje are trained to fight as one unit. They move and strike in unison, which is a fairly unique way of waiting. Let's hope that they remember that trick when they are facing thousands of Thanos' army a few months later in Avengers: Infinity War.
Black Panther is the latest film from the MCU, following T'Challa after he returns home to Wakanda after the events of Captain America: Civil War and must learn to accept the responsibilities of the throne. However, old enemies return to Wakanda seeking to usurp the throne and exploit the nation's resources of vibranium. Directed by Ryan Coogler from a screenplay written by himself and Joe Robert Cole, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis.
