Fifty Shades Freed Director Says Full-Frontal Nudity Was Shot
Fifty Shades Freed has been out for a week, and even if you haven't seen the flick yet, the cast has been pretty open that the fans aren't getting any full-frontal nudity from one Christian Grey, who is played by Jamie Dornan in the flick. Throughout the three movies, we've seen Dakota Johnson's character in various stages of undress but the best we've gotten from Dornan has been his bare chest, the occasional butt shot, and a glimpse of his penis during a Fifty Shades of Grey montage. However, at least in terms of Fifty Shades Freed, director James Foley says some full-frontal nudity was shot. So what happened?
Although some have speculated that Jamie Dornan may not have wanted dick pics on the internet and may have refused to shoot the scenes in question, James Foley says that isn't exactly what happened. In fact the Fifty Shades Freed movie did film scenes including Dornan's penis, they just didn't happen to make it into the final draft of the film. Per the director:
But in the final cut, I'm being totally honest, it just didn't come off... Full frontal would have been a kind of deliberate cut, to see that for no reason. There's plenty of dailies where he's on, but it just didn't make the final cut. For dramatic reasons.
In his conversation with ET, James Foley did not elaborate on what those "dramatic reasons" were, but it could be anything from the timing of the full-frontal nudity to Jamie Dornan being a little, erm, uncomfortable while filming the scenes. Really, there are a lot of explanations for why the scenes may not have panned out in a way that the director felt worked for the movie, but the end result is that we don't get full-frontral nudity from Christian Grey.
The reason this has been such a talked about topic is because Fifty Shades Freed manages to get Anastasia Steele naked quite a bit. Dakota Johnson is topless in casual situations, such as -- and minor spoilers -- when she is laying out on the beach and when she is changing clothes in her closet. We see her body during plenty of sex scenes too, and although Fifty Shades Freed is geared at a female audience, there's not a lot of dude flesh to look at.
Jamie Dornan previously said the he didn't fight to cut full-frontal scenes or anything, saying the movies aren't "making porn as much as people think we are."
All in all, there are still plenty of sex scenes in Fifty Shades Freed, although things don't get quite as kinky as they do in the books.
